The Toyota Corolla AE-86 Corolla (Japanese: トヨタ AE八十六 カローラ) is a small, lightweight coupe/hatchback introduced by Toyota in 1983 as part of the fifth generation Corolla lineup. Two different versions were sold in Japan: the Trueno (with pop-up headlamps) and Levin (with fixed headlamps). The Hot Wheels casting is a Trueno, but with its headlamps folded down; lines cast into the bodywork show where these are. On some versions, a tampo is applied where the headlamp’s top cover is. This casting is right-hand drive as is the standard for JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) cars.
In Popular culture, this car was featured in the manga and anime series ‘Initial D in the 1990s, one being driven by protagonist Takumi Fujiwara.
